Thank you, Bill Maher. A little dated now, but watch the last 3 minutes and you'll see what I'm thankful for.

Fascinating Things I Read at Work Today

Roberto Gonzalez redeems John Ashcroft's tenure as Attorney General by being an oily, lying, utterly shameless little toadie of the Bush Administration (WARNING: mind-blowing torture of logic and perjury ahead)

Obama proves to the other "front runners" what straight-shooting really is about (watch both videos)

Support for suicide bombing in Middle East down, common sense up

Pay Attention, Sheeple.

A cool if not-terribly-revelatory video of the West's the slow crawl from democracies to police states.

Thieves and Liars

Scooter Libby's been spared jail and may be pardoned, and the neo-cons couldn't be happier. Why, after all, should he go to jail when he didn't give the order to "out" Valerie Plame - the reporters did? If presented with this point of view - keep your cool, and ask the speaker a few questions instead.

* Did you dislike Bill Clinton?
* If yes, why?
* If they indidate Clinton's perjury to the Senate about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, THEN WHY THE FUCK SHOULD LIBBY OR HIS BOSSES GET A PASS ON PERJURY HIMSELF?!?!?

Libby obstructed justice and commited perjury, by concealing records that indicated a political retribution over Joe Wilson coming out against the administration's burgeoning case for war - the consquences of which are FAR greater than doing so to avoid sleeping on the couch (listen to Wilson's reactions, including the fact that Libby and the administration may have commited Treason).

So, maybe it's time to take them all to court. The new book, The United States vs. George Bush et al creates a speculative case against the head honchos in the Bush Administration for misleading and abusing the trust of the American people. I think it's time to go to a bookstore - this will be a more satisfying flight of fantasy than anything Tolkein could have come up with.

Sobering and Powerful

There is some good journalism on the Iraq war reaching the public - it's just not coming through any American channels. For your consideration:

Inside Iraq: a shared journalists' blog of life in Baghdad. Fascinating and powerful. Read this post and this one for some raw reporting you're not getting on the news.

Iraq's Lost Generation: Doctors, lawyers, professors, and leaders are being murdered by the score, potentially crippling any future rebuilding of Iraq. Read it.
