Let's See How Long it Takes for This One to Die

Barney Frank and Ron Paul Sponsor the "Make Room for Serious Criminals Act," which would stop federal prosecution of marijuana smoking (thus leaving it solely to the states to decide legality). This would also prevent the government from literally making it a federal case when a person prescribed medical marijuana actually uses it. Revolutionary, I know. A quote I found particularly appealing, and indicting of the Big Daddy Government world we live in:

" To those who say that the government should not be encouraging the smoking of marijuana, my response is that I completely agree. But it is a great mistake to divide all human activity into two categories: those that are criminally prohibited, and those that are encouraged. In a free society, there must be a very considerable zone of activity between those two poles in which people are allowed to make their own choices as long as they are not impinging on the rights, freedom, or property of others. I believe it is important with regard to tobacco, marijuana and alcohol, among other things, that we strictly regulate the age at which people may use these substances. And, enforcement of age restrictions should be firm. But, criminalizing choices that adults make because we think they are unwise ones, when the choices involved have no negative effect on the rights of others, is not appropriate in a free society."

Despite the fact this would reduce overcrowding in our criminally (hehe) overpopulated jails and reduce trial times in our overbooked courts, I predict a new casualty in "The War on Drugs," because we simply don't seem to believe in adulthood anymore. Remember, pot makes horrible criminals out of us all. Just look at the chaos here in Oregon! Pot has caused incalculable damage to the cookie and chip populations, and led to rampant slouching and giggling at nothing. Up with hope, down with dope!
